The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a warning about a fraudulent website impersonating DBS Bank (Hong Kong), urging the public to be cautious about online scams.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public alert concerning a fraudulent website that falsely claims to be associated with DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. This scam has been reported to the HKMA and highlights the growing issue of online banking fraud.

Details of the Fraudulent Activity

According to the HKMA, the fraudulent website is part of a scheme that attempts to deceive customers by impersonating DBS Bank (Hong Kong). The HKMA has provided a hyperlink to the official press release on their website for those seeking further information.

Warning Against Phishing Attempts

The HKMA emphasizes that banks, including DBS, will never send SMS or emails containing hyperlinks directing users to conduct transactions on their websites. Banks also do not request sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, via phone, email, or SMS.

Guidance for Affected Individuals

Individuals who have inadvertently provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through the fraudulent website are advised to immediately contact DBS Bank using the contact details provided in the official press release. Additionally, they should report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860 5012.

As online scams become increasingly sophisticated, the HKMA’s alert serves as a crucial reminder for the public to remain vigilant and cautious when engaging in online banking activities. The HKMA continues to work closely with financial institutions to safeguard consumers against fraudulent activities.
