ElmonX Brings Baseball’s Holy Grail to the Blockchain with Reimagined T206 Honus Wagner Digital and Physical Drop

524 digital editions, 20 holographic physical redemptions, and a premium 21-piece companion collection honour the most valuable baseball card ever printed

The T206 Honus Wagner is the most famous and most valuable baseball card in existence. Printed by the American Tobacco Company between 1909 and 1911, fewer than 60 are believed to survive today after Wagner himself halted production. A single example sold privately for $7.25 million in 2022. No other card in sports history carries the same weight.

Now, ElmonX, the digital collectibles platform behind licensed drops of the Mona Lisa, The Starry Night, and The Last Supper with Bridgeman Images, is bringing Wagner’s legendary T206 card to the blockchain in its arguably most ambitious release yet.

524 editions. One for every card in the original T206 set.

The main collection, titled ElmonX T206 Honus Wagner, comprises 524 digital editions, a number that directly references the 524 unique baseball cards in the original T206 set. Each edition is assigned a grade from 1 to 10, with the distribution inspired by the actual surviving population of the Wagner card. Most are well-worn by a century of history. A handful are near mint. And the gem mint grade 10, a condition that has never existed in the real world for a T206 Wagner, appears here for the first time.

Every edition carries one of the two authentic cigarette brand backs found on the original cards: Sweet Caporal (60%) or Piedmont (40%), mirroring the real-world ratio of surviving Wagners.

Hidden among the 524 are 20 holographic editions, visually distinct Grade 10 variants that double as physical redemption cards. Each holographic holder can redeem their digital edition for a cased, graded physical T206 Wagner card, bridging the digital collectible with a tangible piece of baseball history.

The 21 — Wagner’s career in 21 physical cards

Alongside the main drop, ElmonX will release a premium companion collection: ElmonX T206 Honus Wagner: The 21.

The number 21 represents Honus Wagner’s 21 seasons in Major League Baseball, from his debut with the Louisville Colonels in 1897 to his final year with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1917. The collection honours that career with 21 editions, each pairing a digital twin with a cased physical card.

Twenty of the 21 are graded across all ten conditions, two of each grade, one Sweet Caporal and one Piedmont. The twenty-first is a 1/1 gold and blue holographic, struck once and never again, marking 1909, the year Wagner led the Pirates to their first World Series championship.

A new chapter for digital sports collectibles

The T206 Wagner drop represents a significant step forward in how sports memorabilia intersects with blockchain technology. Rather than simply digitising a famous card, ElmonX has built a layered collecting experience: grading systems that mirror real-world conventions, authentic back variants tied to historical production data, and a physical redemption mechanic that gives digital collectors a path to owning a tangible piece.

Every physical card in the collection is handcrafted, printed, finished, and individually cased in a custom grading slab designed to mirror the format collectors know and trust. These are not mass-produced reproductions. Each card is made to order, hand-inspected, and sealed with its matching grade label before shipping directly to the redeemer. The result is a physical collectible built with the same care and intentionality as the digital edition it’s paired with.

The release follows a string of sold-out ElmonX drops for example Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa (330 editions at £150), Van Gogh’s Starry Night (289 editions), and Monet’s Nympheas, establishing the platform as a leader in premium digital collectibles with a proven community of engaged buyers.

The ElmonX T206 Honus Wagner collection launches on OpenSea. Pricing to be announced. The companion collection, The 21, will follow as a separate premium drop. Both releases are scheduled for May 1st 2026.
