Artist Kris Andrew Small transforms Leonardo’s Sydney HQ with bold murals and immersive installations, embracing the chaos of creativity.

Kris Andrew Small’s unmistakable style has found a new canvas: the Sydney headquarters of Leonardo AI. Known for his bold, chaotic, and deeply personal artistic approach, Small partnered with Leonardo to bring their brand ethos, “Yours to Create,” to life through vibrant murals, typography, and immersive installations.

Leonardo AI’s new office reflects a commitment to creativity as a right, not a privilege, inviting artists and thinkers to push boundaries. Small’s contribution reinforces this message. His work, filled with energy and explosive color, transforms the office into a space that celebrates experimentation and individuality.

“I hope it encourages people to make work that isn’t normal,” Small shared in an interview. Growing up in Brisbane, he noted, creativity wasn’t always encouraged. His own career is a testament to breaking past those conventions, creating art that feels deeply personal and unapologetically unique.

Small’s process is rooted in chaos—he describes it as working quickly to capture the energy of an idea before refining it later. “Just working on something for a long time doesn’t make it good,” he explained. “You need to catch that moment where it clicks.” This philosophy aligns perfectly with Leonardo’s emphasis on curiosity, autonomy, and the courage to create without limits.

As a nod to his background in design and advertising, typography plays a significant role in Small’s installations. He approaches type with a maximalist mindset, pushing boundaries while maintaining legibility. “There’s so much energy in typography,” he said. “When I started making my own work, I wanted to push it—warp it, skew it, make it mine.”

The collaboration also touched on the intersection of traditional art and emerging technologies like AI. While some artists are wary of AI’s role in creativity, Small sees it as just another tool. “The future will be made up of like 50,000 things, and one of those is AI,” he remarked. For him, AI represents an opportunity to streamline technical tasks—like animation—allowing more time for creative exploration.

Ultimately, Small’s work at Leonardo underscores a key message: meaningful art comes from a place of authenticity. Whether using AI or traditional mediums, the heart of creativity lies in the willingness to experiment and stay true to oneself. As Small puts it, “The most important work is the kind that feels true to you.”

The vibrant installations at Leonardo’s Sydney office are more than just decoration—they’re a call to action for anyone hesitant to embrace their creative instincts. In a world filled with tools and technologies, Small’s work is a reminder that the real magic still comes from human imagination.
