Character.AI has appointed Sunita Verma, a former Google executive, as its new Chief Technology Officer to spearhead technological advancements in personalized AI entertainment.

Character.AI has announced the appointment of Sunita Verma as its new Chief Technology Officer, marking a significant step in its mission to enhance personalized AI entertainment. Verma’s extensive experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and distributed systems positions her as a pivotal addition to the Character.AI team, according to Character.AI Blog.

Sunita Verma’s Expertise

Sunita Verma joins Character.AI from Google, where she held the position of Vice President & General Manager of Google’s Core Labs. Her role involved driving innovation in engineering and new platform development, particularly emphasizing generative AI and large language models (LLMs). Verma also played a crucial role in Google’s Search & Shopping Ads business, leading initiatives such as the launch of Responsive Search Ads. Her contributions extended to Google’s Payments and Distributed Infrastructure teams, impacting numerous consumer internet products.

Strategic Leadership for Character.AI

In her new role at Character.AI, Verma is set to advance the company’s technical systems, aiming to deliver a more entertaining and secure product experience. This move is part of Character.AI’s broader strategy to create an engaging and immersive space for its users.

Building a Strong Leadership Team

Verma’s appointment follows the hiring of Erin Teague, another former Google executive, as Chief Product Officer in October. Both leaders bring a wealth of experience in developing industry-leading consumer products, reinforcing Character.AI’s commitment to innovation and user safety.

As Character.AI continues to expand its leadership team, it remains focused on the next chapter of personalized entertainment. Further updates on the company’s priorities and developments are expected later this month, as outlined in their Roadmap post.
