In order to improve interoperability among countries, the RBI governor has suggested a plug-and-play system to enhance cross-border payment efficiency. In the process of attaining harmonization and interoperability among countries, a key challenge could be that countries may prefer to design their own systems according to their domestic considerations. To overcome this obstacle, the governor explained RBI’s strategy stating that a plug-and-play system will allow replicability and will also maintain the sovereignty of respective countries. India has already made some progress and is looking to develop this system for the benefit of the community of nations.
