Berlin-based Vay introduces a novel remote driving solution using NVIDIA DRIVE AGX, advancing mobility with real-time teledriving technology and AI capabilities.

Vay, a pioneering company based in Berlin, is making strides in the automotive industry by presenting an innovative alternative to autonomous driving. The company leverages NVIDIA DRIVE AGX technology to offer advanced remote driving solutions, also known as teledriving, which allows users to experience seamless and sustainable mobility.

Innovative Teledriving Technology

Through Vay’s user-friendly app, customers can hail a vehicle that is remotely driven by a professionally trained teledriver. This approach not only facilitates door-to-door service but also eliminates the need for users to park the vehicle. The teledriver manages parking and vehicle relocation to the next customer, providing a unique and convenient transportation solution.

Powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX

Vay’s teledriving system is built upon the robust NVIDIA DRIVE AGX centralized compute platform, which includes the NVIDIA DriveOS operating system. This setup ensures safe and AI-enhanced autonomous vehicle operations. The platform’s capabilities allow Vay’s fleet to process substantial amounts of vehicle and camera data in real-time, enhancing situational awareness and operational reliability in various driving conditions.

“By combining Vay’s innovative remote driving capabilities with the advanced AI and computing power of NVIDIA DRIVE AGX, we’re setting a new standard for remotely driven vehicles,” stated Justin Spratt, Vay’s Chief Business Officer. This collaboration aims to deliver safe, reliable, and accessible driverless options to the market today.

Enhanced Video Streaming Capabilities

Vay’s technological ecosystem includes NVIDIA DRIVE AGX software, optimized for low latency and high processing power. Utilizing NVIDIA’s GPUs, the system can transmit high-definition video feeds instantaneously, ensuring teledrivers receive critical situational information even in complex environments. In emergencies, the vehicle is capable of safely halting autonomously.

Bogdan Djukic, Vay’s cofounder and VP of engineering, emphasized the transformative potential of this technology in urban transportation, stating that it expands the boundaries of mobility for businesses and communities alike.

Reshaping Urban Mobility

Vay’s system allows teledrivers to operate vehicles remotely from specialized stations equipped with standard driving controls. These stations provide an immersive experience, transmitting road sounds and visual data with minimal latency, enabling the vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 26 mph.

The technology effectively manages complex driving scenarios through human oversight, enhancing safety while reducing costs and development challenges. Vay, a member of the NVIDIA Inception program, has been a trailblazer in Europe, being the first to teledrive vehicles on public roads without a safety driver.

Since January, Vay has expanded its commercial operations to Las Vegas and has secured partnerships with companies like Bayanat, Ush, and Poppy. A recent $35 million investment from the European Investment Bank is set to further propel its technological rollout across Europe.
