AMD Pushes AI Security as Enterprise Risks Escalate

AMD outlines strategies to secure enterprise AI, focusing on zero trust, governance, and defending against AI-enabled threats.

Security teams are grappling with a dual challenge as AI adoption accelerates in enterprises, according to AMD’s latest blog on AI security. While businesses integrate AI agents to drive operations, adversaries weaponize similar technologies to exploit vulnerabilities at unprecedented speed. AMD argues that organizations must treat AI security as a unified discipline—simultaneously safeguarding AI deployments and defending against AI-driven attacks.

AI’s rapid adoption has created significant governance gaps. AMD highlights that one in five breaches now involve “shadow AI”—unsanctioned tools accessing sensitive data. According to IBM’s 2025 Cost of a Data Breach Report, 97% of breached organizations lacked proper AI access controls. This governance deficit is particularly troubling as Gartner predicts that a third of enterprise applications will include autonomous AI agents by 2028.

The threat landscape is equally alarming. AMD cites CrowdStrike’s 2026 Global Threat Report, which reports that adversaries now achieve lateral movement within 29 minutes on average—faster than traditional, human-driven defenses can respond. Many attacks leverage valid credentials, bypassing malware detection entirely. AI-enhanced social engineering tactics further complicate the challenge, making it clear that conventional security models are insufficient.

To address these risks, AMD advocates treating AI agents as “first-class principals” with their own identities, access models, and zero-trust security frameworks. This includes layered protections such as agent registries, runtime security, and robust observability to ensure actions are logged, explainable, and defensible. AMD warns that skipping any layer in this security stack could invalidate the entire framework, leaving organizations exposed to cascading failures.

On the defensive front, AMD emphasizes the need for AI-assisted security operations to match the speed and scale of AI-driven attacks. This includes deploying autonomous threat-hunting tools, AI-augmented Security Operations Centers (SOCs), and exposure intelligence systems that prioritize risks based on exploitability rather than theoretical vulnerabilities. Crucially, AMD stresses that defensive AI must remain accountable, with clear audit trails and tunable models to ensure transparency.

AMD’s strategy aligns with its broader push into enterprise AI infrastructure. The company has recently expanded its portfolio with Helios rackscale systems, leveraging its 6th Gen EPYC CPUs and Instinct MI400 GPUs. These systems are designed to support AI workloads in hybrid and on-premises environments, emphasizing local governance and regulatory compliance. Additionally, AMD’s confidential computing technologies, like SEV-SNP, aim to protect data in use, a critical feature for sensitive AI deployments.

However, AMD’s confidential computing features have not been without scrutiny. Security researchers have identified potential vulnerabilities in SEV-SNP protections, underscoring the need for rigorous patching, firmware governance, and layered defenses. Organizations adopting AMD solutions must ensure their security frameworks evolve alongside emerging threats.

For enterprises, the stakes are clear. As AMD notes, the “climb” to secure AI will not get easier, but adopting a proactive, integrated approach could make the ascent more manageable. The focus must remain on governance, inline enforcement, and leveraging AI defensively to reclaim the speed advantage from adversaries. With enterprise AI spending projected to grow sharply, companies that fail to address these dual challenges risk falling behind both competitively and defensively.
