Blackrock’s $50.2M Inflow Offsets Selling as Bitcoin ETFs Turn Green

Key Takeaways

  • Blackrock’s IBIT offset $45.31M of rival outflows, leaving bitcoin ETFs up $4.89M on Tuesday.
  • Ether ETFs saw a modest $1.76M exit, as demand wavered for altcoin ETFs.
  • Hashdex’s $14.7M DEFI closure shows smaller bitcoin ETFs face tougher scale and liquidity pressure.

Bitcoin ETFs Add $4.89M Despite Outflows for 5 Funds

A single fund carried the bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) market across the finish line.

Selling spread across five products during Tuesday’s session, yet a strong inflow into Blackrock’s IBIT absorbed the pressure and returned the category to positive territory after Monday’s $144.67 million withdrawal.

Ether ETFs remained in the red, though the pace of withdrawals slowed sharply.

IBIT Counters Selling Across Bitcoin Funds

Blackrock’s IBIT attracted $50.20 million, enough to overcome withdrawals elsewhere and leave bitcoin ETFs with a $4.89 million daily net inflow.

Franklin Templeton’s EZBC recorded the largest exit at $16.46 million. ARK 21Shares’ ARKB lost $11.55 million, while VanEck’s HODL shed $10.30 million. Fidelity’s FBTC posted a $4.13 million withdrawal, and Hashdex’s DEFI lost another $2.87 million.

Bitcoin ETF trading value reached $1.42 billion. Combined net assets closed at $77.46 billion.

Ether ETFs recorded a much narrower loss. Fidelity’s FETH saw $2.33 million in outflows, while Blackrock’s ETHA attracted about $564,000. The category finished with a $1.76 million net withdrawal.

Total ether ETF trading value was $334.45 million, with net assets ending the session at $10.48 billion.

Solana Gains as Hashdex Prepares to Close DEFI

Solana was the only altcoin ETF category to record flows. Morgan Stanley’s MSOL attracted $1.43 million, lifting the category to a positive finish. Total solana ETF trading value reached $36.07 million, while net assets closed at $899.08 million.

XRP and HYPE ETFs reported no net creations or redemptions during the session.

Hashdex’s DEFI outflow came just over a week after the issuer announced on August 3 that it would close and liquidate the fund. That timing gives Tuesday’s $2.87 million withdrawal the appearance of capital moving out ahead of the planned shutdown.

The fund had about $14.7 million in assets as of July 30. Trading and new subscriptions are scheduled to end on August 17, after which DEFI will be delisted from NYSE Arca. Investors who remain in the fund are expected to receive cash liquidation proceeds around August 28.

Hashdex cited the fund’s size, liquidity, operating costs, investor demand, and broader product strategy among the factors behind the decision.

Tuesday’s redemption suggests some investors are choosing to exit before the liquidation process runs its course. The episode also underscores the pressure facing smaller bitcoin ETFs in a market where assets and trading activity remain heavily concentrated among the largest products.
