Blockchain.com Debuts Short-Dated Crypto Options

Blockchain.com has launched options trading through its Trading Account for eligible users in supported jurisdictions, adding short-dated directional contracts across seven cryptocurrencies. The company announced the product on October 20, 2026, in a release published via PR Newswire.

The new contracts are funded in USDC and are designed with a defined loss at purchase: the premium paid plus the upfront fee is the most a buyer can lose. That limit comes with a significant restriction, however. Positions cannot be sold or otherwise closed before they settle, according to Blockchain.com’s product documentation.

Seven assets and one-week expiry window

At launch, users can buy call and put options tied to Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Hyperliquid, Avalanche, XRP and TRON, with available expiries of no more than one week. A call option generally reflects an upward directional view relative to a selected target price, while a put reflects the opposite view.

Blockchain.com limits availability to eligible users in supported jurisdictions, rather than releasing the product globally. The initial offering combines established large-cap tokens with assets such as Hyperliquid and TRON.

Crypto Briefing’s coverage, carried by TradingView, independently confirmed the seven-asset roster, the one-week maximum expiry and the eligibility restrictions.

Upfront USDC funding fixes loss—but removes early exits

Blockchain.com says each options trade is funded upfront in USDC. Under its options FAQ, the premium and upfront fee are the buyer’s maximum potential loss, known at purchase.

The same FAQ says contracts must be held until settlement and cannot be closed early, limiting a buyer’s ability to manage a position after opening.

A simplified purchase flow starts at a $5 premium

The purchase flow asks users to select the cryptocurrency, target price, expiry date, direction and the amount they wish to spend. Blockchain.com lists a current minimum premium of $5, excluding applicable fees, in its instructions for buying an option.

In the purchase flow, the spending amount sits alongside the contract terms as an input, framing the trade around the amount committed upfront. The minimum itself describes the premium threshold, not the total outlay, because fees are additional where applicable.

In the materials cited, Blockchain.com has not set out additional expiry lengths beyond the initial maximum of one week or described an early-exit mechanism. Buyers can therefore choose a short-dated view and a defined initial outlay, but cannot alter the position after purchase, leaving a narrowly bounded product.

Options follow perpetuals rollout and CFTC filings

The options launch is the latest step in Blockchain.com’s recent trading-products expansion. Crypto Briefing linked the rollout to the company’s earlier perpetual-futures launch and to CFTC registration applications filed on October 13.

Those parallel developments place the options product within a broader push into trading services, while the initial contract design remains more constrained than a venue offering tradable options positions throughout their lifetime. For now, Blockchain.com’s offering is limited to eligible users, seven underlying crypto assets, USDC-funded purchases and expiries of up to one week.
