Gemini Spark now available on macOS, connects with apps like Canva and Dropbox, and adds real-time topic tracking for enhanced productivity.

Google has announced significant updates to Gemini Spark, its AI-driven personal assistant introduced in May 2026. As of June 30, the platform is expanding to macOS, adding deeper app integrations, and introducing real-time topic tracking capabilities. These updates aim to enhance productivity and streamline workflows for users across devices.

Gemini Spark Launches on macOS

Previously available only on web and mobile, Gemini Spark is now in beta for macOS. The app allows users to automate complex tasks such as file organization and data analysis directly on their desktop. For instance, Spark can sort PDFs in a user’s Downloads folder into categorized folders or generate budget spreadsheets by pulling data from local files and syncing with Google Workspace. Notably, Spark maintains user control by requiring explicit file access permissions.

Coming soon, users will also be able to assign tasks remotely. For example, you could ask Spark via your phone to find a specific sales report on your Mac, extract key data, and email it—handling the task entirely in your absence. The beta is currently limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older in the United States.

Expanded App Integrations

Google is broadening Spark’s utility by integrating with popular apps like Google Keep, Google Tasks, Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. These integrations allow users to convert notes into actionable tasks, design flyers, reserve restaurant tables, or even schedule apartment tours—all through Spark. The new features are rolling out for web and mobile now and will arrive on macOS in the coming weeks.

Another notable addition is support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling users to connect their preferred apps to Spark for highly tailored automations. This reflects Google’s push into “agentic AI”—systems designed to autonomously manage multi-step workflows while remaining transparent and user-controlled.

Real-Time Topic Tracking

Spark now offers real-time topic tracking, allowing users to stay informed without constant manual updates. For example, it can provide live soccer match highlights, send financial alerts when a stock hits a certain threshold, or monitor blogs and social media for updates. This feature is available starting today across web, mobile, and desktop platforms.

Market Context and Broader Implications

Gemini Spark’s updates highlight Google’s commitment to embedding AI deeper into daily productivity tools. The integration of apps like Canva and Dropbox positions Spark as a versatile assistant for both personal and professional use. With its ability to operate across devices via cloud-based virtual machines, Spark distinguishes itself from traditional AI chatbots limited to single-device interactions.

Since its launch in May 2026, Spark has been part of Google’s broader strategy to dominate the “agentic AI” space, projected to grow significantly in the coming years. Competitors like Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise are also vying for market share, making these feature expansions critical for Google to maintain its edge.

For users and developers, the addition of MCP and remote task execution could open new avenues for automation, potentially boosting adoption among enterprise clients. These updates also underline Google’s focus on maintaining user trust, with robust permission frameworks and transparent operations.

Gemini Spark’s macOS beta and new features are available as of June 30, with further updates expected later this summer.
