HYPE Price Surges 17% as NYSE Owner Picks Hyperliquid

All news is rigorously fact-checked and reviewed by leading blockchain experts and seasoned industry insiders.
  • ICE signed a definitive deal to run a regulated U.S. perpetual futures market built by Trade[XYZ] on Hyperliquid.
  • HYPE led the largest cryptocurrencies higher as traders priced in Wall Street’s backing.
  • Launch timing, contract terms and the size of ICE’s stake remain undisclosed.
  • The deal adds a derivatives piece to ICE’s earlier bets on Polymarket and OKX.

The HYPE price jumped 17% on October 29, the biggest gain among the 100 largest cryptocurrencies, after after Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, signed a definitive agreement with Trade[XYZ] to launch a regulated perpetual futures market for American retail traders on Hyperliquid’s blockchain infrastructure. Under the official announcement, ICE will act as the exclusive operator of the new venue, take a minority stake in Trade[XYZ] and build a separate clearing structure for it, with contracts covering stocks, indices, commodities, currencies and crypto around the clock. The whole project still needs approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and neither company has named a launch date.

Why a 99% institutional exchange wants retail perps

More than 99% of participation in ICE’s futures markets comes from institutions such as commercial hedgers and banks, according to the company. Perpetual futures, contracts with no expiry date that let a trader hold a leveraged long or short position for as long as margin is maintained, have drawn a very different crowd, mostly retail traders on offshore crypto exchanges who trade at hours when Wall Street is shut. Jeffrey Sprecher, ICE’s chairman and CEO, described the new contracts as an addition to the company’s futures franchise and said ICE wants to reach retail traders through the platforms they already use.

That goal shapes the structure of the deal, since ICE plans to keep the retail venue’s clearing and counterparty risk walled off from its institutional business, so a burst of liquidations in a leveraged retail product would stay away from the clearing houses that serve oil producers and pension funds. Customers would pass identity and anti-money-laundering checks and reach the market through futures commission merchants (FCMs), the regulated brokers that hold client margin in U.S. futures. Because perps never expire, their price is kept close to the underlying asset through funding payments that pass between long and short holders every few hours, a cost that can eat into returns on positions held for weeks.

The $650 billion track record behind Trade[XYZ]

Trade[XYZ] operates on Hyperliquid under HIP-3, the framework that lets outside teams deploy their own perpetual markets on the network, and it has used that access to offer synthetic exposure to assets that never trade on-chain. In its post announcing the ICE partnership, the company said its markets have processed more than $650 billion in cumulative volume in just over a year.

Trade[XYZ] on Hyperliquid Volume data
Cumulative volume $650B+
Q2 2026 volume $202.36B +79.2% QoQ
Q2 equity perp volume $58.9B
Q2 share of HIP-3 volume 95.1%

Trade[XYZ] keeps adding markets, and on October 27 it listed a perpetual contract on India’s NIFTY 50 index with up to 20x leverage and settlement in USDC, which lets a trader hold a leveraged position on Indian stocks through a weekend when the exchanges in Mumbai are closed. Its offshore markets will keep running alongside the planned U.S. venue.

Polymarket, OKX and now Hyperliquid

The Trade[XYZ] agreement is the latest in a run of crypto-linked commitments ICE has made over roughly a year, including its stake in Polymarket, which now faces a CFTC probe over its 2022 settlement.

The OKX connection carries the most commercial weight. ICE’s announcement names the ICE-OKX joint venture as a possible distribution channel for the new perps, which would hand the venue a ready pool of crypto-native retail users from day one. Read together, the deals place ICE as the regulated operator underneath several crypto businesses at once, although ICE has never presented them as a single platform. The company said the Trade[XYZ] investment will not materially affect its 2026 adjusted results, capital returns or deleveraging plans. The choice marks a sharp turn for ICE. In May, ICE and CME Group pressed the CFTC to rein in Hyperliquid, and the same month ICE and OKX launched perpetual futures on ICE’s Brent and WTI oil benchmarks for non-U.S. traders, a product aimed squarely at the oil markets that had grown on Hyperliquid. Five months later, ICE is building its own retail perps venue on the network it had been competing with.

HYPE jumps while the fee question stays open

HYPE traded at $93.61 on October 29, up 17.2% over 24 hours and almost 21% over the past week, which lifted Hyperliquid’s market capitalization to $23.74 billion. Traders appear to be pricing in the endorsement that comes with an NYSE operator choosing Hyperliquid’s technology. On the open network, a large share of trading fees goes toward buying back HYPE, and Hyperliquid has burned about 49.9 million tokens so far, close to 5% of the 1 billion maximum supply, which is why trading volume matters to holders. Neither company has said how fees from the U.S. venue would be shared or whether any of that flow would reach the token. The regulated market would also be permissioned, with verified customers entering through brokers, so its economics could look quite different from the open Hyperliquid markets where anyone with a wallet can trade.

The daily chart shows how sharply the move broke a month-long slide. HYPE opened the session near $80.70, just under its 20-day average, and pushed through the upper Bollinger band at around $88.40, the line that marks the top of its normal trading range over the past four weeks. A close that far outside the band usually means the rally has run ahead of itself in the short term, and prices often pause or pull back toward the band before the next leg. The RSI reading of 67 tells a similar story, since it has climbed from roughly 40 a week ago to just below the 70 level where buying is generally considered stretched. The next real test sits between $94 and $97, where HYPE topped out in late September and again in early October, while the $88 area and then the 20-day average near $81 are the first levels buyers would need to hold if the gain starts to fade. The daily candle was still open when this was written, so the closing price may differ.

Approvals, leverage caps and the OKX route

The CFTC, chaired by Michael Selig, set out conditions earlier in 2026 under which U.S. platforms could list perpetual futures, and Coinbase and Kalshi have since launched products, with Kalshi winning approval for gold- and silver-linked perps in September. ICE still needs its own sign-off, including approval for leveraged trading, and the companies have not identified the registered exchange and clearing entities they will use. Leverage limits, margin rules and the funding mechanism are also undisclosed. Those terms will decide how competitive the venue is, because a U.S. market with tight leverage caps may struggle to pull active traders away from offshore platforms that allow far more. For brokers, the practical change is a new product line: any FCM that joins as a member could offer 24/7 perps on stocks and commodities to its existing clients.

ICE also faces competition for the same approvals, since earlier this week Payward, the parent of Kraken, outlined plans to become a CFTC-regulated deployer of permissioned perpetual markets on Hyperliquid through its Bitnomial businesses, which means at least two regulated routes to the same infrastructure are now heading toward the same regulator.
