Taiko has integrated Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs into its mainnet, enhancing security and scalability. This move complements its existing multi-proof architecture, marking a significant advancement in Layer 2 solutions.

In a significant development for Layer 2 blockchain solutions, Taiko has announced the integration of Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs into its mainnet. This integration marks a milestone in enhancing both security and scalability for the network, according to taiko.mirror.xyz.

Taiko’s Multi-Proof Architecture

Taiko’s approach involves a robust multi-proof architecture that includes various proof types, such as Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) proofs. The recent addition of ZK proofs complements this architecture, providing a comprehensive security system in the Layer 2 space. The integration of industry-leading zkVMs from Succinct and RISC Zero further strengthens this security framework.

Transition to ZK-Rollup

Previously, Taiko relied primarily on SGX proofs for efficient proof generation and state verification. The current integration allows for 3 out of every 100 blocks proposed by Taiko Beats, the fallback proposer, to require ZK proofs. By the end of 2025, Taiko aims to transition fully to a ZK-Rollup model.

From January 1, 2025, all proposers will be required to meet ZK proof requirements, with a target of achieving 10-25% ZK coverage. Proposers are encouraged to set up their ZK provers to avoid pauses in block proposals and potential slashing penalties.

Future Roadmap

Looking ahead, Taiko plans to expand ZK proof coverage across all blocks and integrate additional zkVMs and TEEs. This strategy underpins Taiko’s ambition to lead in security and scalability within the crypto industry. The roadmap highlights a commitment to evolving the multi-proof design to meet future challenges.

For those interested in contributing to Taiko’s development, opportunities are available to engage with the project on platforms like GitHub. The community-driven approach aims to foster innovation and collaboration in advancing Taiko’s technological capabilities.
